CLASSES FOR AUTUMN 2008

We are planning classes to start on the 1st September.  There will be four courses, two basic and two intermediate standard.  They will be held on Monday and Tuesday evenings.  Each of the four courses will be made up of 6 lessons: basic classes on the 1st, 8th, and 22nd September, and the 6th, 13th and 20th October; intermediate classes will be on the 2nd, 9th and 23rd September and the 7th, 14th and 21st October.  The cost for each course will be £70, and the numbers will be limited to 6 students per course.  At registration (by 23rd August), we will require a deposit of £35 or the full payment.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

You will need your own equipment.  We try to ensure that you buy as little equipment as possible, but, as with any craft, certain items are necessary if a good job is to be done.  Like most hobbies, it can be expensive, but we encourage you to be inventive to keep your costs down.  When you register (at the shop by the 23rd August), you will be given a list of things needed for the course, and we can advise on what is essential and what you can probably find in your kitchen - or grandma's!  There is sometimes a small charge for consumable items, such as royal icing or petal paste.

LOCATION

The classes will be held at Little Paxton village hall.

BASIC COURSES.  There are 2 basic courses for beginners to choose from, as follows:

Course 1 - Monday evening 6.30 to 9.00 pm.

Basic course for beginners in the preparation of a fruit cake and covering it with marzipan and sugarpaste (roll-on icing).  Includes the making of royal icing and icing bags, basic piping skills and an introduction to sugarcraft techniques, eg colouring, runouts, frilling, crimping, embossing, and the use of modelling paste.  Leads to a celebration cake to the design of your choice, eg christening, birthday, anniversary, or something just for fun.

Course 2 - Monday evening 6.30 to 9.00 pm.

Beginners course in making sugar flowers out of petal paste:  includes blossom and filler flowers, carnations, roses and leaves all in a pastillage basket on a pastillage plaque.

INTERMEDIATE COURSES.  There are 2 intermediate level courses as follows:

Course 3 -  Tuesday evening 6.30 to 9.00 pm.

Wired sugar flowers to include:  autumn flowers, leaves and berries leading to a small display.

Course 4 - Tuesday evening 6.30 to 9.00 pm.

Introduction to design and the preparation and making of run-out and bas relief decorations.  There will be time to cover techniques which interest students, and we hope to try cocoa  painting.

CONTACT.  If you are on the waiting list, we will contact you to confirm your choice of course.  If you have not heard from us by the 17th August, please telephone (01480 471200).  It sometimes happens that we have been trying the wrong telephone number, or messages that we have left are not passed on.  As at 30th August, there were some places available on all courses.

IF YOU CAN NOT DECIDE which course you would like to attend, or which would suit your skill levels, please do not be afraid to ask how we can best meet your needs.

PRIVATE LESSONS.  We can arrange private lessons, but not usually when the main courses are running.

ENJOYMENT.  All the courses are FUN, and that is a PROMISE!!
